A lawyer has welcomed a rape charge against a friend of a Bersatu assemblyman, saying it was a “small win” for the victim after waiting nine months for the accused to be brought to court.
According to Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi, the accused had allegedly raped his client during the assemblyman’s birthday party on Dec 5 at a hotel in Sri Hartamas.
He said the accused, Mohd Zulfahimin Mahdzir, pleaded not guilty to the rape charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code at the sessions court in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. He is currently out on RM15,000 bail, he said.
“This development is a small win for our client who has waited nine months for justice. We will follow the case closely and will review the evidence that will be brought by the prosecution so as to ensure that justice is served,” he said in a statement.
Asheeq said a civil suit against a few others over “conspiracies, pressure and intimidation” against the victim will go on as planned. – FMT
