PKR Secretary-General Saifuddin Nasution will most likely battle the party’s vice president Rafizi Ramli for the party’s number two post, reports Free Malaysia Today.
The report said that Farhash Wafia Slavador, Anwar Ibrahim’s former aide, will not throw his hat into the ring if Saifuddin went for the post.
“He is seen as more of a match for Rafizi than Farhash,” said a source in the report.
Farhash has been critical of Rafizi after he announced his return to active politics as well as his decision to run for the PKR deputy president’s post again in this year’s party elections.
The party is set to hold its party polls in May.
Rafizi has announced that he will return to active politics after taking a break. He had announced earlier this week that he will go after the deputy president’s post.
Rafizi’s first try for the post was in 2018 but the former Pandan MP lost to then PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.
The post of deputy president has been vacant since Azmin was sacked from the party following his part in the Sheraton Move, which brought down the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020.
