Wan Hairuzrizal Wan Habib was fined RM5,000 in default of six months’ jail for blackmailing his ex-girlfriend by threatening to distribute her nude pictures.
Cosmetics entrepreneur Hairuzrizal pleaded guilty to the offence in front of Magistrate Firdaus Sadina Ali at the Ampang magistrate’s court yesterday.
He was charged with extorting a 36-year-old event organiser by threatening to distribute her lewd pictures through WhatsApp at the Impian Selatan Condominium, Taman Bukit Mewah, Bukit Antarabangsa, at about 6.30am on Nov 5.
Sporting a black suit and tie, Hairuzrizal was hardly camera shy as press photographers and video crew snapped away outside the courtroom when the proceedings ended.
“Please stop taking pictures of my handsome face,” he was heard saying while leaving the court, escorted by policemen.
The divorcee and father of two had contacted the event organiser, his ex-girlfriend and a mother of four, via WhatsApp by sending several nude pictures of her.
He demanded that the woman reply his messages and threatened to circulate the pictures if she refused. The woman filed a police report shortly after.
The offence falls under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum seven years’ jail, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Hashimah Hashim asked for a deterrent sentence against the accused.
However, Hairuzrizal, when pleading for a lenient sentence, said that he was remorseful for his crime and was the sole breadwinner for his family.
