Datuk Seri Najib Razak may submit a new pardon application, his lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said today.

“We may file a fresh pardon. As everyone knows, a pardon can be applied for several times, for example, to reduce the jail sentence. You can decide what you want to include in the application.

“But as we all remember, we have the addendum and the partial pardon, which are running at the same time. So, if we were to make a fresh application, we do not want the issues of the addendum and the pardon to affect or be linked to each other,” he told reporters at the Palace of Justice.

Shafee said Najib was pleased with the Federal Court’s decision to allow his judicial review of a royal addendum enabling him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

“He is happy and has instructed me that, if he wins, he wants the matter expedited. He is satisfied that the Federal Court has asked for this case to be fast-tracked at the High Court,” he added.

Earlier, the Federal Court dismissed the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ (A-GC) final appeal to block Najib’s judicial review. This allows him to proceed with his challenge at the High Court to enforce the order.

The three-member bench, led by Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim, noted that the A-GC had conceded the existence of the addendum.
