The Arau parliamentary hot seat will see a three-cornered fight involving Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan in the 15th General Election (GE15).
After a snub from Barisan, incumbent Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim will be contesting under the Perikatan ticket and will face off against Umno’s Datuk Rozabil Abd Rahman who will be contesting for the first time for Barisan.
Fathin Amelina Fazlie will also be contesting for the first time for Pakatan.
The Arau constituency consists of five state seats – Pauh, Tambun Tulang, Guar Sanji, Simpang Empat and Sanglang.
The nomination papers for the Arau parliamentary seat and the five state seats were confirmed by returning officer Abdul Malek Hassan, at 11.30am Saturday (Nov 5). No nomination papers were rejected.
Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim’s brother, Datuk Ismail Kassim will be contesting under Umno in the seat of Tambun Tulang, which is one of the state seats under the Arau parliamentary constituency. – The Star
