Former Felda chairman Shahrir Samad has been freed of money-laundering charges involving RM1 million, allegedly received from former prime minister Najib Razak.

He was granted a discharge and acquittal (DAA) of the charge, which means that the Umno veteran cannot be charged with the same offence again.

In today’s proceedings, Najib was initially scheduled to testify as a prosecution witness.

The 73-year-old Umno veteran and former Johor Bahru MP was given a full acquittal by the Kuala Lumpur High Court after deputy public prosecutor Rasyidah Murni Azmi informed the court that the prosecution did not intend to pursue the case.

Rasyidah maintained that this is the only instruction received from AGC and that the prosecution would not pursue the case at the nearest date or time when Judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin asked about the reasons behind the prosecution’s submissions this morning.
