A woman today claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court to a charge of reckless driving during a marathon running event last month, in a hit-and-run incident which injured an aide to Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.
Cham Shan Jer, a single mother, is facing a charge under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act, with a maximum five-year jail term and RM15,000 fine.

She is accused of driving recklessly on the early morning of Sept 29, injuring Khairy’s aide Faizul Shahrul Mohd Salleh, and another man, Lee Wei Jack, at the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).
She is also accused of possessing 13.5 mg of methamphetamine, facing two years’ jail and an RM5,000 fine.
Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali allowed her bail for both offences.
Last weekend, two participants of the Standard Chartered Marathon 2019 were injured after a car ploughed through safety barriers set up on MRR2.
More than 30,000 people took part in the event, which has been held since 1989. – FMT
