Replacing Idrus Harun.

Today, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali announced that Ahmad Terrirudin has been appointed as the new attorney-general, effective September 6.

This appointment has been approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Clause (1) Article 145 of the Federal Constitution.

Ahmad Terrirudin will be taking over from Idrus Harun, whose contract as attorney-general is set to expire on September 5.

Mohd Zuki expressed the government’s gratitude to Idrus Harun for his service during his tenure as the attorney-general.

Idrus, a former Federal Court judge, was initially appointed on March 6, 2020, for a two-year term under Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

His tenure was extended for another year in 2022 when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob assumed office.

Under the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Idrus’s tenure was further extended for six months until March 6 of this year, which will end next Tuesday.

Ahmad Terrirudin, previously serving as the Federal Court chief registrar, was appointed as Solicitor General in 2020 before his new role as attorney-general.
