The 14-year-old student accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old schoolmate at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, had purchased his weapons online, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed today.

Shazeli said investigations are ongoing to identify the specific online platform used to buy the knife and karambit.

“Initial investigations found that the suspect had purchased the items online,” he said at a press conference, adding that the purchases were made “some time ago.”

He said the suspect’s actions appeared to be influenced by emotional factors and social media, and confirmed that the suspect and victim had no prior relationship.

“The victim was found in the toilet, and based on our current investigation, we believe the suspect had followed her inside,” he said.

The victim died from multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck. Shazeli said the suspect’s mental health has not been confirmed, and further screening will be conducted.

Police revealed that the suspect had previously displayed his knife in class. “After the incident, the suspect panicked and wandered around the school compound before being apprehended by teachers and students,” Shazeli added.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days, from today until 21 October. He arrived at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex at 8.40am in a police patrol car. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Earlier, the victim’s remains were claimed by her family at 7.30am, after a post-mortem at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre Pathology Department. Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that initial findings showed multiple stab wounds, and two sharp weapons believed to have been used were recovered at the scene.

A nine-second video showing the suspect calmly walking while drinking water and holding a knife has gone viral on social media. The clip, showing the suspect wearing black gloves and appearing unperturbed, has drawn strong reactions from netizens.

The suspect’s father, visibly distraught, expressed deep remorse. “I am heartbroken my son did this. I know that no matter what I say, it’s useless. No matter what I do, I can’t get their daughter back. I don’t know how to face them…” he told China Press.

The 40-year-old father, who declined to be named, said he had sent his son to school that morning as usual and noticed nothing unusual. He described his son as introverted, quiet, and not prone to trouble, though his academic performance was poor. He said his son had never mentioned the victim before and that the tragedy had left him shattered.

In a moving Facebook post, the victim’s mother described her daughter as sweet, kind, and disciplined.

“She never worried us and since she was little, she was always considerate of her parents and others and never asked us for anything. She was deeply loved by her family and friends. She was a beautiful child, but yet met with something so cruel … I am speechless and heartbroken,” she wrote.

She added, “I hope she rests well in the other world, and her soul finds peace and happiness. Mum will always love and miss you.”
