Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has rejected a post at a government-linked company amid speculation that Perikatan Nasional leaders would be appointed to top positions at these organisations.

Mohamad, popularly known as “Tok Mat”, was offered the top position to take charge of Tenaga Nasional Berhad but he turned down the offer.

The Rantau assemblyman reportedly said he wanted to dedicate all his attention to his party.

A list of Perikatan Nasional leaders said to be appointed as GLC heads had been widely circulated on social media recently.

On April 12, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said that all MPs who do not presently hold positions in government will be made heads of GLCs.

Last month, Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari was appointed the new Skills Development Fund Corporation chairman.

Yesterday, it was announced that Beaufort MP Azizah Mohd Dun had been appointed as chairperson of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), Jempol MP Datuk Mohd Salim Sharif as chairman of Rubber Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) and Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh to head the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar).

Senator Datuk Razali Idris was appointed as chairman of the Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) and Permas assemblyman Datuk Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh as chairman of Southeast Johor Development Authority (Kejora).

Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid is said to have been tapped to chair Telekom Malaysia Berhad.

The Padang Terap MP is a witness in the corruption trial of Rosmah Mansor.

He is said to have facilitated demands of former prime minister Najib Razak’s wife for kickbacks from a RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project for rural schools in Sarawak when he was education minister.

If the appointment goes through, Mahdzir will replace retired Federal Court judge Zainun Ali.

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman is rumoured to have been appointed to chair Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.

Several Umno leaders are said to have been recently appointed to head GLCs, including Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for Petronas.

Among others are Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub as chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, Sulaman assemblyman Hajiji Noor as Tabung Haji chairman and Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya to be appointed a role at Felcra.
