No need to attend classes, courses and tests to obtain a driving or motorcycle licence.

This is the lure offered by a ‘lesen terbang’ syndicate that was actively promoting their services via social media, particularly on Facebook.

The Transport Ministry special duty officer Chung Yi Fan said they detected a handful of Facebook users using fake profile photos and names to advertise their services and it is believed that they could earn thousands of ringgit for just one licence.

Chung said among the content in the advertisement was that one would not need to attend classes, courses and sit down for tests to obtain their driving or motorcycle licence.

“This is clearly in violation of the Road Transport Act 1987. We had submitted an attachment of a Facebook account that runs the ‘lesen terbang’ business to the police,” he told reporters today after lodging a police report at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.

He pointed out such a transaction apart from the involvement of illegal syndicate, document forgery and corruption may contain fraud elements.

“We handed over the case to police for further action,” he added.

Elaborating further, he said the Road Transport Department would release an official statement regarding the issue next week.

“On the possible presence of corruption element, the ministry is still considering to refer the case to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

“Any decision will be announced next week,” he said.

Days after Anthony Loke was sworn in as the new Transport Minister last month, he had vowed to eliminate such practices. – NST
