Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Adam has alleged that the anti-graft agency is misusing its power by charging him with lodging police reports he made against alleged wrongdoers.

He said instead of questioning these “wrongdoers”, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was coming after him.

He alleged the latest was today after MACC officers served him with an affidavit for contempt of court.

“They are charging me with lodging a police report against Amhari Efendi, who had admitted receiving RM25,000 a month from Orbs Solution during a trial,” he said referring to a statement by former special officer to former prime minister Najib Razak during the 1MDB trial.

Lokman said he had also lodged a police report stating Amhari had said he did not declare the US$200,000 (RM833,100) loan he received from fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, in 2010

“All these are not right. It should be under the MACC Act and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing (Amla).

“MACC wants to charge me with threatening the witness. But I only made the report after Amhari had finished his part of the 1MDB trial,” he said.

Lokman added that the enforcement bodies should further probe Amhari on his statements instead of charging him (Lokman).

He said he had also been treated the same by the police for making police reports previously on other issues, including on a same-sex video implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“I have been put in a lock-up and now charged with contempt of court. It is misusing its powers.

“If Barisan Nasional comes back to power, Attorney-General Tommy Thomas and MACC chief Latheefa Koya will be brought to justice,” he added. – FMT
