The woman who was killed by her husband before he leapt to his death in an apparent murder-suicide in Penang yesterday, was stabbed 34 times.
Acting Northeast police chief Superintendent V Saravanan said this was revealed after a post-mortem examination today.

“Based on the post-mortem result, the deceased woman was stabbed 34 times on various parts of her body,” he said today.
Police believed that the woman had been dead for three hours before her remains were recovered.
It is believed that the couple had been fighting for the past three months, possibly due to jealousy.
Yesterday, a 54-year-old man was believed to have stabbed his wife to death before taking his own life by jumping from the 12th floor of their condominium unit at GL Garden in Paya Terubong, Penang, three days after celebrating the Chinese New Year.
Initial investigations revealed the couple could have had a misunderstanding which escalated into a fight before the man stabbed his wife.
He then jumped to his death.
Police had received a call about someone jumping off the condominium building at 7.38am yesterday.
About noon the same day, an elderly woman had gone to the Air Itam police station to lodge a report, alleging that her daughter’s condo unit was locked from the inside and she could not open it.
With the help of police, the complainant, accompanied by the police, went back to the unit where she had used a duplicate key to open the door.
As soon as the door was opened, they found a woman lying on the mattress in one of the rooms. Checks on the woman found stab wounds on her neck and thigh.
Further checks confirmed the man who had jumped to his death was the woman’s husband.
The couple has an 18-year-old child, who was not at home at the time of the incident.
