A woman who allegedly called police at a roadblock “idiots” has claimed trial to charges of insulting behaviour and obstruction of a public officer in carrying out his duties.
Sales Manager Tong Poh Kim, 44, was charged in the magistrate’s court in Petaling Jaya today.
She is accused of committing the offences against Corporal Izuan Hasim Nor Hamzah at 9.40am on March 31 at Persiaran Surian.
For calling Izuan “idiot” she was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for insulting behaviour and can be fined up to RM100.
For obstructing the officer from carrying out his duties, she was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail sentence of up to two years, or a fine up to RM10,000, or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Firdaous Mohamed Idris asked the court to impose bail of RM1,000 and RM5,000 for each of the charges, respectively.
Lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh, who represented the accused, said his client would not abscond.
“She was informed last night that she would be charged and here she is today in court.
“She is not a flight risk. I ask for a lower bail,” he said.
Magistrate Nurshahirah fixed RM1,000 bail in one surety for the first charge and RM3,000 in one surety for the second charge.
Case management has been set for May 20.
