“Tomorrow, I will submit my application form to contest for an Umno Supreme Council seat,” he said.

The Supreme Council elections will be held on March 18.

Zaid rejoined Umno in September last year after having left the party some 14 years ago. He said his decision to return to the party was to help it “reform from within”.

Zaid first joined Umno in 2000. He won the Kota Bharu parliamentary seat in 2004 but was dropped as a candidate in the following general election.

He was suspended from Umno in 2008 and joined PKR in 2009, only to quit the party a year later. In 2010, he formed Kita but resigned as its chief two years later.

Zaid joined DAP in 2017 but left after three years. – FMT
