More opportunities for eligible students.

I would like to congratulate the Minister of Education on her recent move to rebrand all Form Six colleges to pre-university colleges.

The move is something many students have been waiting for and not only will it give Form Six students a new image, but it also opens up more opportunities for eligible students.

Many good students were overlooked as previously the admission process for Form Six students was only via an offer from the ministry.

However, with the recent announcement by the Minister, it is good to hear that with the autonomous power given to the principals to relax admission conditions, more students will have an opportunity to enter Form Six.

This move will surely help reduce the number of dropouts because prior to this, many students who completed their Form Five were left with limited options.

Not everyone could afford to send their students to private colleges to pursue their A-Levels or other courses, while some could not make it into public universities.

However, now, there are much more opportunities with these relaxed conditions.

Also, the move to rebrand Form Six colleges as pre-university colleges also provides these students with much-needed respect and distinction.

After all, making it to Form Six is an achievement and it is only right that students and teachers alike, be given due recognition.

I also want to commend the Minister on her efforts to enhance the quality and professionalism of Form Six teachers.

These teachers not only play the role of educators but have a huge influence on the lives of these mature students who are being groomed to enter the working world.

It is imperative that these teachers are equipped with a high level of professionalism to effectively carry out their roles in shaping the future generation.
