Maria Chin Abdullah said she sympathises with DAP for facing numerous accusations thrown against the party.
The PKR MP said various allegations have been hurled towards the non-Muslim-majority party, including being called a communist party and the power behind the Cabinet among others.
“DAP seems to be getting the brunt of it, that the so-called non-Muslims are trying to take over the country,” she said at the Direct Talk Series: A Session with Maria Chin Abdullah event.
“Sometimes I really sympathise with DAP over the accusations and these are really accusations that we don’t know where they are coming from,” she added.
Maria said there is currently a lot of misinformation floating around, especially on social media.
She said issues concerning race and religion have also become more challenging and divisive.
The former activist admitted that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has not been able to provide a strong argument against some key issues.
“We have not been able to handle a lot of issues like Zakir Naik, khat writing, UEC, even small things like singing Negaraku in Mandarin… It is (always) firefighting,” she said.
Nevertheless, Maria also acknowledged the reforms undertaken by the PH government and the promises fulfilled.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said recently that 2020 will be an important year for the PH government to implement the remaining 40% of its manifesto promises. – TMI
