Politicians must stop harping on race and religion and start working on economic reforms, including eradicating poverty completely, said a veterans’ group today.

National Patriot Association (Patriot) president Brig Gen (r) Mohamed Arshad Raji said the focus, especially on the part of the government, should be on economic issues.

“Opposition parties should play their rightful role to check on the Pakatan Harapan government’s performance, and stop harping on race and religion issues from now on.

“We must all think as Malaysians and what is good for our country. Never forget that our destiny is shared,” he said in a statement.

He said the past 15 months have been wasted bickering on race and religion issues instigated by opposition parties, as well as infighting within the PH coalition.

Arshad said this hampered efforts that could have been better used to put into works for the promised reforms.

“We are now into the second year of PH governance. Unity among the various ethnic groups is no better. Inter-ethnic distrust remains high, and so is inter-religion (distrust).

“The level of trust from among Sabahans and Sarawakians towards the federal government has not improved.”

He said if the people are in disarray, disunited, un-driven by a common cause, it then reflects on the poor leadership of politicians.

“The cabinet has to take responsibility,” he said. – TMI
