Kuching-born pianist Jolynn J Chin has done Malaysia proud by joining Season 16 of reality talent show America’s Got Talent (AGT).

AGT, which premiered on Tuesday, marks 25-year-old Chin’s debut in an American television show, and she has described it as a dream come true.

“I watched AGT a lot when I was young and always thought it would be cool to be on that show. I never expected their producer to reach out to me 20 years later, and I am most grateful to all of them,” said Chin in a recent news report.

Chin added that she received an email from the casting producer of AGT, who had seen her YouTube videos and thought she was brilliant.

“When I received his call, he asked for my permission to introduce me to the executive producers.

“A few weeks later, he brought good news. A senior producer of AGT would make arrangements to fly me to Los Angeles.”

Chin had a wonderful experience with the helpful and friendly AGT team.

Her family and friends were delighted that she made it to the reality show.

“I started preparing for my performance in December with AGT’s team of musicians.

“We worked hard for a couple of months to create a good audition,” she said.

Chin, a classically-trained pianist learnt music when she was five, and was taught by music educationist Dr Nicholas Ong from The Juilliard School, the United States.

She has worked with many renowned musicians and won several prizes in international competitions.
