Shared by social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir on her Facebook page, a video featuring a Muslim girl in a lion dance troupe has warmed the hearts of netizens.
In the video, Mariam Abdul Nazar explains in Mandarin her foray into lion dance.
The 21-year-old revealed she has been a drummer in the troupe for the past eight years.
“It’s part of the reason why my Mandarin is okay. I train here and get to communicate,” she said.
While Marina captioned the Star TV video as “so cool”, comedian Harith Iskander, who shared Marina’s post, said it was “absolutely fabulous!”
Harith later shared the video on his personal Facebook page, calling it “absolutely brilliant! Malaysians are wonderful people”.
Echoing many positive comments from netizens, Facebook user Priya Supra Sanbakam said Mariam’s involvement with the lion dance troupe was “the beautiful spirit of Malaysians”.
