PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s political aide did not meet with Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz on the day of his arrest, according to a source close to the party leadership.

The source was responding to blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who claimed Haziq was detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last Friday amid plans to leave for the Philippines with Anwar’s aide, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

“Farhash was in town… Raja Petra’s statement is false and heavy with evil intent to pit two leaders (Anwar and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali) against each other,” the source told Malaysiakini.

The source said to his knowledge, Farhash had not met Haziq in the past several months, and was not involved in a plot with the latter.

Previously, Anwar also denied that he or his supporters were behind the sex clips implicating Azmin.

“What would be the reason for us to do this? We are from the same party and from Pakatan Harapan,” he added.

Azmin has described the clips, which depict a man resembling him engaging in sexual acts with another man, as a nefarious plot to ruin his political career.

Haziq, who admitted to being the other person in the clips, claimed it was Azmin and that their alleged tryst took place in Sandakan, Sabah, last month.

The 27-year-old Santubong PKR Youth chief is being investigated under multiple sections, including for carnal intercourse.

Police are currently attempting to authenticate the video. Haziq was released on police bail on Saturday. – Malaysiakini
