A picture of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in hospital with Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang is an old one and the writings accompanying it are fake, says the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.
Dr Wan Azizah noted the increasing number of fake postings on social media, especially about the Pakatan Harapan government.
“The latest disturbing posting came from a Facebook user called ‘Menteri FB’ and is of a photo of the Deputy Prime Minister with Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang.
“The photo was accompanied by the caption: “Selepas Azmin Ali dimasukkan ke hospital, tiba pula giliran Wan Azizah Ismail (After Azmin was admitted to hospital, it is now Wan Azizah’s turn).
“This was accompanied by further lies, including speculation that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will use the ‘illnesses’ of both Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Dr Wan Azizah as excuses to appoint his son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, as Deputy Prime Minister,” the DPM’s office said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 7).
It also pointed out that Dr Wan Azizah had officiated an event at Tasputra Perkim, Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday (Feb 7) morning and even spent time speaking to the press at the event.
“These are just malicious efforts by irresponsible people who hide behind pseudonyms to create tension within Pakatan.
“Do not believe everything you read on social media and do not share when you are in doubt,” said Dr Wan Azizah.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that while social media has changed the way we communicate today and made the world more borderless, there must be a sense of responsibility when posting anything.
Azmin, who is on a one-month medical leave, was discharged from a private hospital on Tuesday (Feb 5) where he had undergone gall bladder surgery.
He is now recuperating at home.
Apart from PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Wan Azizah, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari and Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin as well as their spouses also visited Azmin.
Azmin also received a visit from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. – The Star
