Told off by Pahang menteri besar that they were not the only ones having issues with land titles in Cameron Highlands.

A group of Cameron Highlands residents who were hoping for clarification on their land status were left disappointed after they were ticked off by Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob instead.

When one of the residents asked how the state government had managed their land status, Adnan told the group, “Please go home.”

“Ten years…40 years can wait, 10 years cannot wait…Please go home. Okay, bye bye, Vanakam, nandri,” he said.

A video of him telling off the residents was uploaded on Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s (PSM) Facebook page.

PSM had been helping the residents get clarification on their land status from the Pahang government.

The residents, who are mostly farmers, claimed that Adnan had been trying to avoid them. They said the menteri besar had agreed to an appointment on Oct 3 but cancelled it the day earlier.

PSM secretary B Suresh said the fact that Adnan had cancelled the appointment brought into question his political motives.

“Is he waiting for the next general election to be over?

“We believe that Adnan will no longer be menteri besar after the general election, so he’s trying to avoid the problem until then so that he can wash his hands of the matter.”

Suresh earlier said the residents had been farming on their land for 40 years but had yet to receive land titles.

“We are here about the land issue, Datuk Seri…they have been farming for 40 years without land titles. How long more do they have to wait?” Suresh asked.

Adnan then told the group that they were not the only ones who had complaints about land titles, adding that there had been 4,000 applications in Cameron Highlands.

“Just wait, be patient. Last time they (the government) did not take notice of the matter but now we are aware,” he said.
