Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz said Mohamed Azmin Ali and he first became intimate in 2016 but they had always kept their relationship separate from their duties.

Haziq Aziz told theSun daily that he and Azmin had kept their relationship separate from their professional duties since becoming “intimate” in 2016, three years after Haziq started promoting Azmin among students at Universiti Malaya.

“But we never mixed politics with our relationship,” he said in the interview with the daily.

Yesterday, Haziq, an aide to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, said he decided to come out with a video confession alleging that the gay sex clips making the rounds on social media were of him and Azmin because he feared for his safety.

He said he was afraid of what some quarters may be “capable of doing” to silence him.

“It was a risk but I would rather be in the spotlight than suffer the same fate as Altantuya Shaariibuu,” he told theSun, referring to the brutal murder of the Mongolian woman in 2006.

Yesterday, PKR’s disciplinary board slapped Haziq with a show-cause letter over his claims.

Haziq said he began to help Azmin “address some challenges” within PKR during his student days.

“I began to help Azmin in 2013 when he was challenged by Khalid Ibrahim (former mentri besar of Selangor) for the deputy president post,” he said.

Azmin beat Khalid and Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to retain the deputy presidency in the party elections in 2014.

Haziq also rejected claims that he was paid a substantial amount to make the confession.

“Why would I want to throw away my career for short-term gains?” he asked. “I had a good job and a great boss.”

Azmin has condemned the allegations as slander and lodged a report with Islamic authorities to bring “qazaf” (false accusation of illicit sex) charges against Haziq.
