Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Mansor says investigations are ongoing into a report filed in April against former prime minister Najib Razak alleging that Felda was cheated into investing in an Indonesian plantation company.
“The investigations will take some time because there are a lot of transactions for us to look into.
“But investigations are underway,” he said after an event here today.
Felda director-general Othman Omar had alleged that the agency was cheated by Najib into investing US$505 million (RM2.3 billion) to buy a 37% stake in Eagle High Plantations, part of the Rajawali Group owned by Indonesian tycoon Peter Sondakh.
Othman claimed that Sondakh was close to Najib and that the amount paid for the stake had been 344% higher than its actual value of US$114 million.
Mazlan also said the police had received 37,000 applications from individuals interested in joining the force.
“If one leaves the force, we have many more that could cover for him. So I hope the police understand the value of the force, especially in terms of integrity, and that they do not commit crimes but show trustworthiness.” – FMT
