The Edge Media group chairman told High Court today that the publication should be ‘careful’ about their reporting on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MBD), High Court heard today.
Tan Sri Tong Kooi Ong, told senior deputy public prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram during re-examination today that he had met the fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or known as Jho Low, twice, several years ago.
He said that the fugitive businessman had set up a meeting with him, through one of The Edge’s reporters.
“In 2014, after The Edge had just started (operating), Jho low, through a reporter contacted me, to see me. He saw me twice, by the way.
“He told me that, during the first meeting that The Edge’s reporting (about 1MDB) was wrong. While on the second meeting, he told me that he knows Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“He said that The Edge should be careful of what we wrote,” he said.
This prompted Gopal to ask his actions following the threats, where he said that he just ignored it.
Tan stood as the 43rd prosecution witness in the trial against the former prime minister.
Najib, 69, is facing four charges of using his position to get bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering.
