The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested two senior managers to assist in the investigation over the takeover of the KL Tower concession.
In a statement, the graft-buster said the two, aged 49 and 59, who have the title of “datuk”, were arrested at the MACC headquarters this evening.
According to a source, one of them is a manager at Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, the company that took over the concession from Telekom Malaysia Bhd and the other is a businessman who was a middleman in the takeover.
“They allegedly asked for bribes totalling in the hundreds of thousands and a luxury watch for a ‘higher up’ to help in the takeover,” the source told FMT.
Meanwhile, MACC commissioner Azmi Baki confirmed the arrests and said the two men would be charged. They will be taken to the Putrajaya magistrate’s court for a remand hearing tomorrow morning.
It was previously reported that the MACC had launched an investigation into Hydroshoppe’s acquisition of a TM subsidiary, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd, which manages the KL Tower.
The MACC said it had called in three witnesses and got numerous documents from the relevant parties to be examined.
