PKR’s Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi has denied being a conspirator in a sex video scandal allegedly implicating party deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“This is unfounded…this is a social media mind game that aims to threaten the party and create division,” he told Malaysiakini on the sidelines of the PKR leadership retreat in Port Dickson last night.

Najwan was implicated as a possible conspirator in the Azmin sex video scandal, following the arrest of a Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak on Wednesday.

This is after Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador was cited by Bernama a day earlier as saying that a Selangor assemblyperson was also under the police’s radar over the case.

Najwan was formerly aligned to Azmin’s faction in PKR, but broke off and contested as a third-force in last year’s PKR Youth chief election.

During that contest, the 34-year-old was backed by Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz – the individual who claimed to be the other man in the alleged Azmin sex video.

Najwan said that the sex scandal shouldn’t be linked to the party elections.

“Anyone can support anyone, and what is happening right now shouldn’t be linked to the party election campaign,” he said.

He added that PKR must move forward, reject gutter politics, and focus on serving the people.

Hamid has said that the leader of a political party was the mastermind behind a “wicked plot” to tarnish Azmin’s reputation.

Police have arrested eight people in connection with circulating the video so far, including Haziq and Farhash.

The police have received confirmation that the video is authentic, but said the facial recognition process failed to confirm that Azmin was one of the two men recorded engaging in sexual acts. – Malaysiakini
