Zahid insisted on elaborating.
The lead prosecutor in Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial today ticked off the Umno president for continuously going off tangent during cross examination, reminding him that he was not in a coffee shop or party supreme council meeting.
Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran was incensed when Zahid repeatedly did not give precise answers to her questions, and insisted on elaborating.
He did this despite guidance from judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah and reminders from the DPP.
Raja Rozela lost her cool when she ended her 10th reminder to Zahid with a thank you, only to have the former deputy prime minister respond with: “Thank you to you, too.”
The senior DPP immediately ticked him off by making it clear that the accused should stop trying to be funny in court.
“Be careful, Datuk Seri. I am reminding you to behave yourself.
“I am an officer of the court and you are not in a kedai kopi (coffee shop) or the (Umno) supreme council meeting,” she said, while looking straight at Zahid who was seated in the witness stand just across from her.
Zahid was earlier bombarded with questions about how funds from the charity Yayasan Akalbudi had ended up in the fixed deposit account of a law firm and other matters concerning the charges he was facing.
Zahid was testifying in his defence over 47 charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), corruption and money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
