Former attorney-general Tommy Thomas will not be appearing as a panellist on a forum tonight on his recently published and controversial memoir of his two years in the Pakatan Harapan government.

Thomas in a letter to an internet TV channel’s operations director, Mohammad Ali Omar, also asked that a WhatsApp image showing him as a speaker at the forum scheduled for tonight be corrected as it was false.

The forum, Antara Politik Dan Undang-undang, was to have featured Thomas and lawyer Haniff Khatri, with moderator Zawazi Yusof. It was scheduled to air at 8.30pm on Jom Channel’s various social media platforms.

“I refer to your letter dated February 6 which was only brought to my attention last night (February 8)

“I am declining your invitation to participate in your programme scheduled for 8.30pm tonight.

“I received from many sources the enclosed WhatsApp image. This is totally false. I would like you to take immediate action to issue a corrective WhatsApp image and to circulate it widely,” Thomas said in a letter dated today.

The memoir, My Story: Justice in the Wilderness, courted controversy upon its release more than a week ago.

More than 100 police reports have been lodged against him over various allegations – for releasing state secrets, criminal defamation and insults.

Among others, Thomas touched on the process of prosecuting former prime minister Najib Razak over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal, the competence of prosecution officers handling the case, the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, which implicated Najib, his controversial appointment to the post as a non-Malay, and on the collapse of the PH government. – TMI
