Sworn in at Parliament, the Pagoh MP said he will be up and running once his health improves.

After nearly a month, Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin read out his oath as a federal lawmaker in front of Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof in the Dewan Rakyat this morning.

Muhyiddin missed the earlier swearing-in ceremony on July 16 as he was hospitalised in Singapore for an operation to extract a pancreatic tumour, which was detected at an early stage.

The 71-year-old returned to Malaysia on Sunday after spending a month in Singapore.

“My health is improving, although I am still in the healing process. Doctors have advised me to take my time, eat more and do physiotherapy.

“For the time being, I feel better, but I will commence chemotherapy sessions after Hari Raya Haji,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Aug 14).

Dressed in a dark grey suit and a black songkok, Muhyiddin appeared pale, as he moved about the Dewan, but was still in good spirits.

“I am feeling refreshed for now.

“For cancer cases such as this, it is normal to go through follow-up treatment, including chemotherapy for 12 rounds over the duration of six months,” he revealed.

“I will be doing this in Singapore and Malaysia, but in the meantime, I need to build up strength to overcome this, so my condition improves day by day.

“I wish to thank the Prime Minister because he gave me all the space I needed, and told me not to think about anything else and just take care of my health.

“I might start light work, attend meetings but not long ones, on doctor’s advice of course,” he added.

He also said if his health permitted, he will attend the Cabinet meeting on Friday (Aug 17).

“I haven’t gone for a Cabinet meeting in a while, I miss it a little,” he said.

He is set to attend the remaining three days of the Dewan Rakyat sitting which will end this week.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been the acting home minister during Muhyiddin’s absence.
