24-Year-Old Malaysian Student Found Dead in Hyde Park Lake, London

A son of Malay Mail associate editor Zainal Epi was found dead in Serpentine Lake at Hyde Park in London on Monday.

The Metropolitian police identified the deceased as 24-year-old Muhammad Hafiz, based on a student card found on the body.

According to London-based news reports, the victim’s body was first spotted in the lake at 5.43am (1.43pm Malaysian time).

Police arrived at the scene and recovered the body before paramedics pronounced the victim dead.

London police have yet to determine the cause of death.

It was reported that Hafiz was the youngest of Zainal’s three children.

He had been a chemistry student at the Imperial College of London since 2015.

Reportedly, the Malaysian High Commission in London notified Zainal of Hafiz’s death at 2.30am on Tuesday (March 26) and he left for London soon after to claim his son’s remains.

Hafiz will be buried in London, Bernama reported.

According to The Star, Zainal last visited Hafiz in London last September.

Zainal had worked with several major newspapers, including as an assistant news editor with theSun.
