Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said if PH wins the 15th General Election (GE15), he would forbid his immediate family from being involved in any government projects.

Anwar said if he were to become prime minister, he would also lower the salary and allowances for the top post as well as ministers.

“Let’s just say that come Nov 20 I am sworn in as the next prime minister, I will not be overjoyed and celebrating. The first order for me would be for the people to see the salary of the prime minister and ministers reduced.

“And my children, my wife (Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), my extended family, will not be allowed to touch government projects, it will be forbidden. When I was finance minister, I never got any land, shares or logging conscessions, not even one, nothing, and this is why I dare to say such things,” he said during a meet-and-greet at the Lereh fishing village in Melaka.

Anwar said if the people gave PH the mandate to form the next government, he would also reduce the number of ministers.

“Please bear in mind that this is not about Anwar wanting to be prime minister, this is to ensure a better future for the lower-income group, those who suffer silently, in more ways than one, including fishermen.

“If the prime minister and government are changed but the attitude remains, then there’s no need for a change in government. If there’s a change of prime minister, what do fishermen get then?”
