Perak and Negri MB also announced resignations.

Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has stepped down from his post after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced his resignation as coalition chairman.

In a statement on Tuesday (30 December), Azmin said his appointment was under the chairman’s authority. “Therefore, I resign as secretary-general of Perikatan effective January 1, 2026. I will also resign as Selangor’s Perikatan liaison committee chairman effective the same date,” he wrote on his social media page.

Azmin expressed gratitude and urged all parties to maintain cooperation during the transition. His resignation came shortly after Muhyiddin confirmed he would leave his role as PN chairman.

Later the same day, Perak PN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Negeri Sembilan PN chairman Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker also announced their resignations, effective 1 January 2026. Both acknowledged that their appointments had been made under Muhyiddin’s authority.

Faizal, who is Bersatu vice-president, posted: “I would like to express my highest appreciation and sincere thanks to the leadership and members of PN Perak’s component parties for the cooperation, support and trust extended to me throughout my tenure.”

Mohamad Hanifah said his decision was made with responsibility and respect for PN’s organisational structure, hierarchy and governance. “I would also like to express my appreciation and gratitude to all leaders, party colleagues, grassroots machinery and supporters of Negeri Sembilan PN for the support and trust given to me throughout my tenure,” he added.
