Tested positive for Covid-19.
Raymond Ooi, the son of Malaysian composer-songwriter Datuk Ooi Eow Jin, passed away on Monday (July 11) at 2.38pm. He was 58 years old.
Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez informed StarLifestyle of Raymond’s death, which was later confirmed by Raymond’s mother Datin Elaine Khaw.

“Yes, he passed away due to Covid-19,” she texted to StarLifestyle.
“We managed to have a video call with him this afternoon,” said Khaw of her last communication with Raymond.
Raymond was hospitalised on June 28 after testing positive for Covid-19, along with his mum and his 84-year-old dad.
His situation deteriorated on July 3 and was said to be in critical condition.
“My husband is doing better but I am not too well and my son’s condition is very serious. He’s on oxygen support,” Khaw told StarLifestyle on July 6.
On July 7, she shared: “My son is getting worse every day. Today, the doctor told us that he could leave us anytime. They have changed the antibiotics but nothing is working.”
For some years now, both Ooi and Raymond faced serious health issues.

The famed pianist was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2015 which left him with little motor function.
Meanwhile, Raymond had a brain tumour, which caused loss of vision, and was bedridden. – The Star
