New cases creep back up a day before MCO to be relaxed.
The number of positive Covid-19 cases reported daily rose by 17 to 122 cases as of noon today, bringing the cumulative total in the country to 6,298, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said 52 of the new cases were imported ones while 70 were from local infections.
“The total number of active cases is 1,780.
“The Health Ministry recorded 87 new recoveries, increasing the number of patients discharged to 4,413 (70 percent of the total),” Dr Noor Hisham said at a daily Covid-19 media briefing today.
“Twenty-seven Covid-19 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 13 of whom require ventilator support.”
Dr Noor Hisham said the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre also recorded two fatalities, bringing the death toll to 105 (1.66 percent).
The 104th death (Case 5,539) was a Malaysian man, 82, with a history of hypertension and heart disease.
He was treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on April 22 and died on May 2 at 6.29pm.
“The 105th death (Case 5,837) was a Malaysian man aged 64, with a history of diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease.
“He was admitted to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, Seremban, on April 27 and pronounced dead on May 3, at 9.46am,” he added.
