Only the second time in the country’s history that new Covid-19 numbers have exceeded 9,000 cases in a 24-hour period, with the previous record being 9,020 on May 29.
Selangor accounted for the highest number of new cases (4,400 cases) followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,271), while Putrajaya recorded the least number of infections in the Klang Valley (16 cases). The high number of cases in the Klang Valley is attributed to the aggressive testing being done here.
Outside Klang Valley, Negri Sembilan recorded the highest number of new infections (899 cases), followed by Kedah (417 cases), Sarawak (406 cases) and Johor (315 cases).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s total cumulative cases currently stands at 817,838.
The infectivity rate (Rt) is now at 1.09, up from 1.07 from the previous day. The last time the Rt was below 1.0 was on June 27.
