The number of critical Covid-19 patients in Malaysia has reached a new high with a record number of 328 people placed in the intensive care unit (ICU), said the Health Ministry.
“A total of 328 Covid-19 patients were admitted to the ICU, which is the highest number so far.
“Of these, a total of 161 patients require breathing assistance,” the Health Ministry tweeted.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday announced 29,227 active cases, after 3,788 new infections were added in the previous 24 hours. The total number of infections increased to 408,713.
This is the third day in a row that new cases have exceeded 3,000, after two weeks of cases in excess of 2,000 daily.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 1,265, followed by Sarawak with 760 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 255 cases.
Dr Noro Hisham said 2,640 patients had recovered, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 377,980.
There were 14 deaths yesterday, raising total fatalities to 1,506.
