The Health Ministry today reported 1,755 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the 24-hour period ending at noon today.
This is the highest number of cases in a single day ever reported in Malaysia, of which only three cases today were imported.
Most of the cases were reported in Sabah (1,199 cases), followed by Penang (192), and Selangor (164).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of cases in the country to 38,189.
One death occurred at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan, Sabah, and another at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah.
A total 726 patients have also recuperated, with Selangor reporting the highest recoveries (322), followed by Sabah (221) and Negri Sembilan (95).
There are 11,530 active cases in the nation, with 83 patients in intensive care units and 32 patients on ventilator support.
