A foul stench emanating from a house in Taman BPL, Luyang, led authorities to the decomposing bodies of a married couple.

The duo is believed to have committed suicide three days ago.

Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Habibi Majinji said the deceased, aged 46 and 37, were discovered at 9.10pm yesterday after neighbours lodged a report of a stench emanating from the house where the couple lived.

A team of policemen was then dispatched to the site for investigation.

“Upon arrival, the team found the house was locked and they inspected the surroundings. The policemen saw two people lying unconscious while peeking through the window using a ladder.

“The investigating officer then sought the help of the Fire and Rescue Department to break open the door,” he said when contacted today.

Habibi said the Health Department’s paramedic team, which was also deployed to the site, said they believe the duo died by suicide.

Site investigation revealed that there was no criminal element involved in the death of the couple, he added.

Habibi said the investigation team found a liquid near the couple that could have been consumed by the victims and led to their deaths.

“As of now, the case is classified as sudden death report (SDR), with the investigation still ongoing,” he said.

It is learnt that the couple has a 16-year-old son who was sent to live with his grandmother in a nearby area prior to the incident. – NST
