Could be contesting under PN or Warisan ticket.
Former Barisan Nasional (BN) Arau member of parliament Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim last night announced that he is running for 15th General Election (GE15), while hinting that he might be contesting under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket.
The former menteri besar and four-term Arau MP said he was contesting on the basis of being a winnable candidate after the BN leadership rejected the list of potential candidates proposed by the Arau Umno division.
“We (Arau division) have submitted a list of five potential winnable candidates but it was completely ignored by BN chairman (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi).
“I will contest on the grounds of being a ‘winnable’ candidate’.
“I will consult my supporters in Arau and they are in favour of a party that leans towards Muafakat Nasional together with Pas and Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia),” he said when met at his service centre in Kubang Gajah in Arau.
Coincidentally, PN had yet to name its candidate for Arau when its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the coalition’s candidates list in Kuala Lumpur earlier this evening.
It was learnt that Parti Warisan was also trying to court Shahidan as the Sabah-based party has also yet to announce its candidate for Arau.
