Investigation papers on allegedly inflammatory statements by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan will be handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this when asked about investigations by the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on the duo.
“I can only confirm that several complaints have been lodged and investigation papers have been opened.
“Let the process continue before it is handed over to the AGC,” he told reporters after attending a town hall session organised by Sinar Harian.
Earlier, Fawwaz stated that he had given a statement to the cops at the Timur Laut police district headquarters in Bukit Mertajam regarding an investigation into allegedly racially charged statements he made. The statement was recorded at 3pm last Friday.
Hadi, meanwhile, was investigated regarding his Facebook post on Aug 20, 2022.
The police had confirmed that they received 28 reports against Hadi after the latter claimed non-Muslims and non-bumiputera made up the bulk of the “roots of corruption” in Malaysia.
Saifuddin had previously said that investigations against Hadi and Fawwaz were made under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, with Fawwaz accused of slandering non-Muslims. – Malaysiakini
