Incumbent Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has lodged a police report against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for continuously linking Pakatan Harapan with communism.
According to the report, Lim urged the police to investigate Hadi under Sections 499, 504 and 505 of the Penal Code as well as the Sedition Act, for making such comments without any proof.
Section 499, 504 and 505 of the Penal Code deals with defamation, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace and statements conducing to public mischief.
“I previously challenged (Hadi) to make a police report when he said we are communists and anti-monarchy because being anti-monarchy is a serious crime. But he failed to do so, he dares not.
“So that clearly shows he was lying. This time, he said it again yesterday, so I have no choice but to make a police report,” Lim told Malaysiakini after he lodged the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters earlier this morning.
Lim said Hadi’s remarks yesterday was the fourth time the PAS president had tried to link Harapan with communism.
Hadi reportedly made his latest remarks while speaking at an event in Temerloh, Pahang, where he said that there were “all sorts of parties in Harapan” including communists, anti-God, liberals, LGBT and corrupt parties.
He said this while comparing Harapan – which he described as “dark” – along with the “murky and grey” BN to the “clear” Perikatan Nasional (PN), a coalition PAS is part of.
Lim pointed out that PAS does not appear to be talking about any substantial issue this election, aside from inciting racial and religious issues.
On the contrary, he said Harapan is addressing issues on the economy, the rising inflation and on how to create more job opportunities.
“Welfare and economic issues are the priorities (for Harapan).
“But look at PAS, (they only) talk about communists, race and religion,” he added.
Lim also said there is clear evidence that PAS would not know how to run the country, especially with regard to the economy, as Kelantan remains the poorest state.
Kelantan has been under a PAS-led state administration since 1990.
“The people cannot just let PN run our country. If that’s the case, our country will go to the dogs,” Lim said.
Meanwhile, Hadi remains adamant that DAP is a “pro-communist” party.
He also said there was no reason to withdraw the recent statement he made on the matter and even claimed to have evidence to prove it.
“I’m not afraid and I will not apologise for the statement. (I’ll) see you in court.
“I have to say, not all DAP leaders are like that (pro-communists), but I know those who are,” he said.
Hadi said he had also given his statement on the matter at the Federal Police headquarters.
