DAP made no demands for the number of cabinet posts – its struggle was not for positions but for the country.
DAP’S support for Anwar Ibrahim was unconditional and the party was ready to stay out of any new government if that was needed for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman to form a government, its secretary-general Anthony Loke said today.
He said that DAP had pledged and provided unconditional support to Anwar to become the prime minister.
However, Anwar had insisted that DAP, which won 40 seats, the most among the PH component parties, be included in the government.

“We supported him without any conditions. I said that if DAP was a stumbling block (in forming a new government), we would facilitate and ease the process for him to get a majority,” he said during a press conference at the party’s headquarters today.
Loke also said the party did not make any demands for the number of cabinet posts.
The party left that to the prime minister’s discretion, said the new transport minister, adding that DAP’s struggle was not for positions but for the country.
“Therefore, whatever positions we have been given, we will do the best for the country,” he said.
DAP has four ministers in Anwar’s 28-member cabinet.
The others are V Sivakumar as human resources minister, Nga Kor Ming as local government development minister and Hannah Yeoh as youth and sports minister.
Loke said some DAP members may think the party did not get enough representation in the new government.
“But our fight in politics is not for positions but for the country. So whatever positions we got, we will do our best.
“We will make sure all DAP ministers work doubly hard and deliver in their respective portfolios.” – TMI
