Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s sons, Mirzan and Mokhzani, have a combined net worth exceeding RM1 billion, according to MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

“They declared their assets directly to me, as I issued the notice or warrant for the asset declaration,” he said during a press conference today.

Azam revealed that Mokhzani’s total declared assets amount to approximately RM1 billion.

“His personal net worth stands at about RM360 million, with the remainder comprising assets and shareholdings after deducting liabilities,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Mirzan’s total declared assets are valued at RM246.2 million, with a personal net worth of RM120 million.

“The rest relates to shares and other assets after accounting for liabilities,” Azam added.

The chief commissioner confirmed that MACC is continuing its investigations and analysing the declared assets of both individuals.

On Jan 18 last year, Mokhzani, 64, and Mirzan, 67, were served notices under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009, requiring them to declare all their assets dating back to when their father first became prime minister in 1981.

Mokhzani is also under investigation under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Additionally, Azam confirmed that MACC is in the process of identifying assets owned by the late finance minister Daim Zainuddin’s family abroad. – Malaysiakini
