MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has confirmed that there are no plans to arrest former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad for now, citing an ongoing investigation.

“We have no intention to arrest him yet since the investigation is ongoing,” he told reporters after attending the launch of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy programme in Putrajaya

On April 25, Azam said the investigation against the former Langkawi MP was linked to MACC’s request for Mahathir’s sons, Mokhzani and Mirzan, to disclose their assets.

Meanwhile, Azam remained coy on whether his tenure as MACC chief commissioner will be extended.

“I do not want to speculate and I still have time until May 12, which is my birthday.

“I welcome birthday presents anyone wants to give me that day,” he quipped.

Azam was appointed MACC chief commissioner replacing Latheefa Koya on March 9, 2020 and his contract is set to end on May 12.
