The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has requested former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to verify hundreds of documents seized as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.

According to Berita Harian, the documents include asset declarations, procurement records, and approval papers related to Ismail Sabri’s tenure in government.

“This is one of the reasons why Ismail Sabri has been summoned for multiple days of questioning, as MACC officers need to scrutinise a vast number of documents,” a source was quoted as saying.

Investigators are also probing the seizure of cash and gold bars valued at RM177 million from three locations, including a suspected safe house in Kuala Lumpur.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that officers are reviewing the documents but declined to comment further on the case.

The investigation, which had faced delays due to Ismail Sabri’s health concerns, resumed this week with extensive questioning at MACC’s headquarters.

Ismail Sabri remains a suspect under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001, with authorities investigating potential links between the confiscated assets and government funds.

He is the third former prime minister to be investigated for corruption after leaving office, following Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
