The movement control order will be extended until April 14, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, in efforts to stem the continued rise of coronavirus cases.
The Health Ministry is registering new infections daily despite the shutdown that is in place, he said in a special announcement.
“This trend is expected to continue for some time before new cases decline. This forces the government to continue the movement control order for a longer period,” Muhyiddin said.

“So, the government will extend the MCO until April 14. I am telling you this early so that you can prepare,” he said.
Malaysia today entered the eighth day of the original two-week-long movement control order to contain and break the chain of infection of the Covid-19 virus.
Up to 5pm yesterday, Malaysia recorded 1,624 Covid-19 infections with 1,426 active cases and a total of 183 patients recovered.
As of today, a total of 17 fatalities related to Covid-19 was recorded.
