The police are investigating a viral message defaming and making false allegations against Melaka Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Melaka CID Chief Mohd Nor Yhazid Idris said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The investigation is ongoing,” he said when interviewed on Monday (Oct 19).
The message that went viral on social media claimed that Ab Rauf had allegedly attempted to sexually abuse a female hotel staff member in Ayer Keroh on Oct 2.
It also claimed that Ab Rauf had attempted to conceal the incident by allegedly coaxing the “victim” with huge payments as inducement not to lodge a police report.
The message also claimed that the hotel management had asked the “victim” not to lodge a police report.
However, the alleged victim had lodged a report at Ayer Keroh police station on Monday (Oct 19) denying the allegation as well as quashing claims of the attempted sexual assault. – The Star
