Muda and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will not join the Perikatan Nasional roadshow, said party secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi.

Confirming the news to Malaysiakini, Amir also reiterated Muda’s strong position as the third force as well as serving as the check and balance.

“Muda is united in its commitment to serve as the third bloc both inside and outside of Parliament and will continue to act as a check and balance on the two main political blocs in Malaysian politics.

“The party’s leadership has already addressed the issue of Muda’s participation.

“We want to firmly remind all parties once again not to arbitrarily issue statements that go beyond the party’s decisions,” Amir said in a statement today.

Malaysiakini has reached out to Syed Saddiq and PN representatives for comments but has yet to receive any response.

Two days ago, Muda acting president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said Muda leadership will meet to discuss the party’s direction and finalise whether it will participate in the roadshow with PN.

Amira reiterated that Muda is only engaged with PSM, specifically to raise issues concerning people across religions, races and skin colours.

Last week, PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the coalition would embark on a tour across the country to explain current affairs to the public after the fasting month and that Syed Saddiq would be part of it.

In response, Amir distanced the party from the matter, saying it was not discussed in the central leadership committee.

Syed Saddiq also justified his participation, saying that attending the roadshow does not mean he supports the opposition coalition. – Malaysiakini
